In todays world, just having a website will not distinguish you from your competitors. Globalization and growing competition have been by-products of the popularity of the Internet. Increased competition has amplified the importance of being able to demonstrate to your customers that you are an expert in your field. Your website needs to become a tool that is always growing and expanding with relevant information that expresses your expertise.
A blog can be a great tool that allows your website to grow and evolve. Blogs, if maintained properly, can allow you to not only contribute to online conversations, but they can allow you to demonstrate your knowledge on a particular subject.
Blogging is not for everyone. If you, or someone in your organization does not have time to maintain the blog on a somewhat regular basis, don’t even bother. It is very concerning to visit a blog that has not been updated in months. Another common blogging mistake is regurgitating information from other online resources. A lot of people will find something online that they think is relevant to their business, and either post a link to it, or embed the video on their blog. While it is a good practice to keep your blog current with new information, it does not demonstrate your expertise to your customers. Become an authority in your field by posting information from your own experience and knowledge base rather than repeating other people’s material. If you have the resources and ability, go the extra mile and create a video that other people will want to blog about.
